Easter Worship at Hopewell

Looking for a place to connect with others, grow in your faith, and learn something new?

The season of Lent marks the journey towards Easter and the celebration of Christ’s resurrection and it begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22. Throughout Lent this year, we will be diving into Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7, through our sermon series and study options and will be exploring the meaning and challenge of Jesus’ teachings for our lives and the church. The study, written by Hopewell staff, will include insights from Biblical scholars and teachers from Palmer Theological Seminary and Eastern University. Sign up for one of these study groups here or by emailing Jen Lisowski.

  • Women’s group, Thursdays, 9:30-11:00 AM, led by Cynthia Lyman (Adult Ministry Center), starting February 23
  • Friday Morning Men, Fridays, 6:30-7:30 AM, led by Allen Puy (ZOOM), starting February 24
  • Sundays, 10:45 AM-12:00 PM, led by various facilitators (ZOOM and in-person in Adult Ministry B), starting February 26
  • Sundays, 6:15-7:45 PM, led by Pastor Amy (Adult Ministry Center), starting February 26
  • Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 PM, led by Jen Lisowski and Donna Brown (ZOOM), starting March 1

This original study entitled The Sermon on the Mount was …

  • written and developed by Jen Lisowski and Rev. Amy Banka
  • enhanced by the wisdom and insight of Eastern University and Palmer Theological Seminary Professors Dr. Tony Campolo, Dr. Diane Chen, Dr. George Hancock-Stefan, Rev. Dr. Kimberlee Johnson, Dr. Rodney Ragwan, and Dr. Deborah Watson

As a Spiritual Practice, fasting is inextricably intertwined with prayer.  Christian Fasting helps us to center our spirits and our actions for a fixed number of hours so as to draw closer to God.  It is a discipline that calls one to a time of self-reflection and of intentionality.

If you have an interest in experiencing the practice during Lent, please consider this upcoming opportunity to participate with others.

The group will gather at Hopewell at 12:30 PM on Palm Sunday, April 2nd, for a time of devotions and sharing of prayer requests.  We will then go our separate ways, staying connected and encouraging one another via email until we regroup at Hopewell on Monday, April 3rd at 5:30 PM. If, for health reasons or other reasons, you have concerns about a full fast, there are options for a modified fast, as well. Have questions? Don’t hesitate to ask. Ready to sign on? Either way, contact Pastor Vicki, and she will connect with you.

Our Easter Basket Mission is back! This year, we are excited to be partnering with Good Samaritan Services to provide Easter baskets for 122 children whose families are in their programs. Good Samaritan Services, one of our Beyond the Walls partners, provides support for families experiencing poverty and homelessness. To create an Easter Basket for a child, take a tag from the display in the main lobby and return your wrapped basket to Hopewell by Sunday, March 26.
