COVID-19 Update

October 26, 2020

Dear Hopewell family,

Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ! I praise God for the glorious autumn season—the falling leaves, the vibrant colors, the smell of fire pits—all of which remind us that change can be beautiful and holy. In a year filled with change (some wanted and some unwanted), that reminder is helpful.

As we head into the month of November, I am pleased to announce a change in Sunday morning worship. Our in-person service is expanding and moving indoors! Beginning November 8th, we will offer two sanctuary services—one at 9:30 AM and one at 11:00 AM—with appropriate cleaning between them. (We may increase the number of services if registration supports that need.)

Because current indoor guidelines allow for 20% occupancy, we will gather in groups of 60 … 50 worshipers and 10 leaders. Therefore, weekly registration will be required by the Thursday prior. In other words, if you plan to attend worship on November 8th, you must register by November 5th. That will enable us to properly set the sanctuary for each configuration.

Register online here. Click on the Sunday worship service you wish to attend and follow the registration prompts. Once finished, you will be issued a ticket, but you do not have to bring that with you. If you are not able to access the web site, or have difficulty, please register by calling the church office by phone at 610-269-1545.

As always, we ask that you kindly stay home if you are sick, have a fever, or been exposed to COVID-19 within the last 14 days.

All worshipers must wear protective masks that cover both nose and mouth for the entire duration of the service, from arrival to departure. If you do not have a mask, we will provide one for you upon entrance.

Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes in advance. Our ushers will help you find socially distant seating. When greeting others, please use non-touch options such as a wave rather than a hug or handshake. In addition, we will provide designated, non-touch receptacles for tithes and offerings. You may also enroll in online giving here. At the end of service, our ushers will dismiss worshippers in sections.

Because we have excellent technology in the sanctuary, we are able to project liturgy and song lyrics, which will both enhance our worship experience and allow us to hum and recite lyrics. Congregational singing is still problematic, but we are grateful for this opportunity to engage hymns and songs more deeply.

Our Children’s Ministry and Youth Ministry teams will provide in-person Sunday School, following our COVID guidelines. Please check this week’s Hopewell Happenings for more information about what to expect and how to register.

Even as we resume sanctuary worship, we know many of you are much more comfortable with virtual worship. Therefore, we are still committed to providing excellent pre-recorded services that feature both traditional and contemporary music. Because the risk of COVID-19 transmission is still high, this is a great option, and we strongly recommend it for those who are uncomfortable attending large group gatherings, who are more vulnerable, and who are not able/willing to wear protective masks that cover both the nose and mouth.

We continue to monitor county reports and mandates, and we will make adjustments as needed and communicate potential changes widely. If we see a significant tightening of restrictions at any point, we may discontinue this plan.

On behalf of the Hopewell staff and leadership, I thank you for your ongoing grace as we navigate this time together and seek to ensure the safety of the community, with an emphasis on caring for the most vulnerable among us.

May God bless you richly for doing your part!

Together with you,
Pastor Amy
